Objective
The focus is to serve people who are having difficulty finding health care, or who have barriers and access issues such as geography, or who may be at a higher risk of poor health.
Our multidisciplinary health care team includes Family Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Footcare Nurses, Counselors, Community Health Workers, Early Childhood Educators and Dietitian.
In response to an ever-growing health need, the NorWest CHCs has expanded its services and programs to communities within the District of Thunder Bay with the addition of a Mobile Unit. This is the first CHC mobile unit to provide primary health care in the Province.
Operations and Goals
The Mobile Unit will be operated with a Nurse Practitioner, RN Foot Care Nurse and a Community Health Worker and will travel to selected communities. Nurse Practitioners can provide primary health care and urgent care clinics, diagnose, treat and refer clients within their scope of practice.
Patients can be seen for health issues such as cuts, coughs and colds, fever, earaches, infections, sexual health, birth control and health teaching.
Health promotion programs will be offered based on the specific needs of the community visited. Examples of such programs include healthy eating, cooking programs, parenting programs, and alcohol and substance abuse prevention programs.
