Programs Offered
Our program team includes a registered dietitian, a nutritionist, a nutrition worker, a community health nurse, community health workers, early childhood educators and child care workers.
Our prenatal and parenting programs provide you with information about pregnancy, and how to take care of yourself and your new baby. You get ideas on how to stretch your budget, how to improve your nutrition, and how to promote your child's development and self-esteem.
Our children's development programs help you promote your child's speech, language and motor skills, and help us identify possible problems at an early stage.
We host speech and hearing clinics.
We have nutrition programs for children, to introduce good food to grow on and to show them that healthy eating can be fun.
We offer children's programs to prevent and reduce bullying.
Students 12 and older can participate in babysitting courses, to learn more about first aid, fire safety, and looking after children.
We have several community kitchen programs for individuals wanting to learn how to prepare healthy nutritious meals.
We offer diabetes education to help individuals living with diabetes. Participants learn how to control their blood sugar and discuss topics like healthy eating, exercise and reducing stress.
We organize a regular seniors lunch to provide seniors with a nutritious meal and socialization.
A seniors exercise program is offered for seniors of any fitness level to improve balance, flexibility and coordination, and to have fun.
Our foot care nurse provides care for your toenails and feet. A Chiropodist, or foot specialist, visits the Ogden clinic on a regular basis.
The Breast Screening Coach provides a mammogram for women 50 years of age and over. The appointment also includes an examination of the breasts and instructions on how to examine your own breasts.
We offer a weekly Aboriginal drop-in program. A women's group and a mixed group provide cultural enrichment as participants make traditional arts and crafts such as beading, moccasin making and quilting.
Our counsellor can help you deal with difficulties at home, work, or with your relationships. Help for survivors of trauma, abuse, anxiety or depression is available.
We offer an alcohol and substance abuse prevention program with several community agencies. Through education, skills building for youth, and the provision of healthy alternative activities, we work to reduce the use of drugs and alcohol and the harm they cause. Programs are offered for children, youths, families, seniors and Aboriginal people.
In collaboration with other agencies we offer support and information for individuals and families affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
In partnership with other agencies, we provide weekly outreach and a hot lunch program during the school year, at Thunder Bay Housing Authority's Limbrick Place.
